The Biggest Pink Bunny EVER!
“A 200-foot-long knitted and stuffed toy rabbit presently lies on the side of the 5,000 foot high Colletto Fava mountain in northern Italy’s Piedmont region”. This definitely caught my attention!
Apparently, a controversial Viennese art group, Gelitin, has erected a giant pink rabbit on the side of an Italian mountainside where they plan for it to stay until 2025. Here is a Google satellite photograph of the bunny.
According to Gelitin group member Wolfgang Gantner the bunny was “knitted by dozens of grannies out of pink wool” and is “supposed to make you feel small, like a daisy.” The artists added that they “want people to scale the rabbit’s sides and fall asleep on its stomach”. Apparently the intent of the project was to make climbers smile and provide them somewhere to lay back and relax.
Gelatin members insist that the bunny is not just for walking around and that they are expecting hikers to climb its 20 foot sides and relax on its belly. Livestock are apparently urged to not eat the bunny as it is constructed out of straw-stuffed fabric. Hello?! Anyone worked out yet that animals love hay and last time I checked, they didn’t really understand the engliash command of “please don’t eat our bunny”.
The Artist’s statement can be read here.
Whilst the intention is for the rabbit to remain on the mountain until 2025, it’s not clear if it’s expected to have disintegrated by then or if that’s the date certain for its deconstruction by Gelitin. That wool-straw-rain combo sounds like it a) will be hard-pressed to last for proposed 20 years and b) will become really smelly / squelchy and less and less appealing to climb up and rest on. But that is just my take on the Hare.
Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the big pink bunny, as seen in the image above, is that whilst it appears to be a giant children’s toy at first glance, on closer inspection, it looks more like a nasty sky-diving accident complete with alarmed look on face, mouth ajar and torso split with entrails lying beside our unlucky bunny. Reminded me a bit of this shocker (I am an animal lover and that is why I will simply link to this image and would never post it on my site!).

Bunnies are pretty happy animals….not squelched and splattered all over with a contorted face.
MAYBE A PINK ELLIE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. !!!!
