Hey everyone - hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations made you forget all about your computer for a few minutes! My folks and brother visited us for the Christmas week so that was great.
I’m heading back to work tomorrow so I thought now was a good time to get my head straight and tell you about the things that I AM GOING TO DO this year! On this new day of this new year, I’ve made up my mind - certain things are going to happen. By writing them here, I’m going to play them like a contract/promise between me and you… not that you’ll really care, just that at least it’s a matter of my word with a pinch of pride thrown in.

Quite a while ago, I stumbled across some documentation that described a simple maze generation algorithm. A few days ago I decided to play around with it and this is where I ended up.

Hey all - I’m back in Cape Town after a week at Le Touessrok in Mauritius… I’m stuck on an old computer behind a very slow internet connection so I’m going to wait until I’m back in Melbourne to show you how nice it was. It was probably the most luxurious week I’ve ever had - you’ll be very jealous! :)

Had a small engagement party last night with Sam’s family and friends. This wedding stuff is getting very real!

Hello there! Well - a week of solid posts followed by a week of cobwebs… what gives?
The quick answer is that I had a project due before I traveled to South Africa - which is where I am now! Wow… this is such a multi-national blog! I’m sure you’re impressed.
The previous week was so time-poor. On Wednesday and Thursday, I only managed to get 2.5 hours sleep each night. Then on Friday the trip was Melbourne > Sydney > Johannesburg > Cape Town… which ends up being 24 hours start to finish. It’s now 4:30am and I feel like I should be over my jet lag by tomorrow which is great.
A quick wedding update for those who care to be in the loop…
Taking my Uncle Paul’s advice: “a happy wife = a happy life”, I recently forfeited my Aussie wedding in favor of holding it in the homeland of my South African bride. The decision was made a couple of weeks ago now and on reflection, it seems to have been the right call… Sam, being an only child, has realised how important it is for her parents to be involved as much as possible - which I guess is the ideal outcome as these guys really know how to organise! The date we’ve chosen is 12th April 2008.
Welcome to one of the biggest moments in my life.
Yesterday afternoon I asked Samantha to marry me… and she accepted. At approximately 1pm, at the end of a pier in Portsea, I officially became the luckiest man on the planet. Sam’s father (her parents are out from South Africa for a week) captured the event from afar…
Afterwards, we went back to Sorrento for an impromptu celebration and spent the rest of the day informing family and talking about the big day… something I’m sure we’ll be doing much more of!
Well I’m back and really excited about what this new year is promising to bring. I had a couple of weeks at home with the family and deliberately avoided anything resembling ActionScript. I guess the plan worked as I’m now fully recharged and ready to go.
So, today is my second day back at work and I was greeted with this when I booted up my PC…
As embarrassing as this is, this year the boys at work and I are doing Movember… and I’d like to call in some support!

It’s a good day for fellow nerds. Google have just launched a search engine which indexes publicly available code in 33 languages.
I’ve been having some trouble coming up with blogworthy news. Work has been pretty full-on and my own projects are not yet at the point where I’m ready to show them off.

If you’re anything like me, you enjoy using MSN messenger but you absolutely hate the advertisement at the bottom of the main window. I work with two monitors and that annoying little ad keeps flickering in the corner of my eye.
I’ve tried a bunch of different strategies to minimise the annoyance. Moving the window so the ad is off the bottom of the screen only works for so long before the cunning MSN programmers make the window pop up again! I’ve used third party ‘crack’ type programs that strip all of the ads out. Whilst they’re good, I’ve recently upgraded to the beta version of MSN 8… so there’s nothing out yet.
I’ve met their challenge with a rather feeble solution - but it works!
