New FootlooseMoose Logo

Amongst finishing up at M&C and getting ready for Samantha’s folks to visit next week, I’ve been trying to organise the new look for FootlooseMoose. As the loyal visitors will know, I’m starting up my own Flash Games business and pursuing a number of other projects.

First things first, I needed to come up with a new logo. Keywords I used were fun, funny, bold, carefree, innocent, magical and zany. I really liked the moose (who’s name is Bruce, by the way) in the previous version of the logo (which still can been seen on the holding page at www.footloosemoose.com) but this time I needed something that was easier to animate - and also, importantly, something that could easily be the main character in a game.

Character Drawing Exercise

Whilst this post is not exactly Flash related, I figure that one of the reasons that “I’m just so into” Flash as a medium is because it empowers me by introducing my inner wannabe artist with the overbearing, enthusiastic geek. It has been quite a long time since I’ve put pen to paper with the specific intention of “drawing something cool” (probably not since I came up with the footloosemoose logo) … and ever since I recently flicked through an art mag with an article on character design I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty.

The images that follow are nothing too fancy - just something I came up with over an hour or two whilst watching TV (yes, I do occasionally step away from the computer!). On three of the five drawings I deliberately tried to come up with a new character concept - the other two are just faces of random people that must be in my head… somewhere.
