Game: Crayon Physics

On 1st June 2007, Kloonigames (which is powered by Petri Purho) released a game called Crayon Physics. If you enjoy novel ideas and interesting interfaces in your games, you’ll love this.

Michael Battle - Crayon Physics

Flicking through my RSS this morning, I found Petri’s teaser for Crayon Physics Deluxe - a refined addition to his original (which at this point was still new to me). So I watched the YouTube demo and was blown away. I then checked out his blog article and downloaded the original and it I was blown away a second time - it was getting incredibly windy!

Something about the simplicity of this concept totally appeals to my inner-child… perhaps it’s the crayons… perhaps it’s the soundtrack?! I’m still trying to figure it out.

The objective of the game is to get the red circle to the star - easy as that - well, except for the fact that you can’t actually directly manipulate the circle. To achieve this you’re going to have to use your mouse to draw your own tools (the original version only lets you draw circles and rectangles) which get interpreted by a physics engine and then included in the scene.

Due to Petri’s 7-day game development policy, some of the execution remains a little unpolished… not to the degree that it interferes with the game, though. Watch the following movie for a demo of the upcoming ‘Deluxe’ version.

I know what you’re thinking and yes, you can have a go! The original is still available for download.

I really think you should go and play and then come back here and let me know if, and why, you think the experience is so compelling.

Well I played this first on someones IPhone was very fun and as for…
” let me know if, and why, you think the experience is so compelling”
well asking why something is fun, is the same as asking why are someone is ticklish. They dont know why, they just ARE!!

I will have to wait until this is released or someone makes there oun flash physic game since the demo only draws squares(and I wont be geting an IPhone).

My computer teacher allowed me to play this game this last week. It was challenging, but it took me about 7 minutes to complete the game. I saw with my father and brother the new version that is coming out, and I think it will be amazing. Kids like us need more games like this.

Hey Dianna - I think his site must be down (hopefully temporarily!).

The link to watch is: www.kloonigames.net/blog

Maybe try again tomorrow - He’s probably getting dugg or something right now. Crayon Physics Deluxe is coming out soon and I think there may be a preview video up at the moment.
