Here’s a quick little glimpse of Flash goodness. The dynamic duo that go by the name of “2D Boy” (I love you, 2D boy!) have just launched a mini-project called “Human Brain Cloud”.

Pitched as a massively multiplayer word association game, participants contribute to a web of semantic associations by responding to a cue word with the first word that comes to mind.
The project started with one word, “volcano” and has erupted (*ahem*) into a collection which, at the time of writing, has almost 13000 words and approximately 47000 connections from just over 30000 participants. Go web go!
The visuals are simple and stylish and I couldn’t help but feel that I was feeding a being that was one day going to be my master (cue the “Human Brain Cloud overlord” comments). More than a simple visualisation though, the experiment reveals a number of interesting tidbits in it’s ‘leaderboard’ such as those humans that are “most in tune with humanity” along with the words with strongest connections (currently “on” and “off” are winning).

Make sure you go over and check out 2D Boy’s blog… he’s a relative newcomer to the blogging scene and will be launching a game in the near future (World of Goo). His rant on “The Game Design Kiss of Death” was also a good read.
