Joining the Lightmaker family

Well friends, I’ve got some big news… just when you think life is comfortably heading in a defined direction, a single email changes everything.

Michael Battle - Lightmaker

I’m very happy to announce that I’ve just accepted a position as Technical Developer at Lightmaker, Melbourne. As much as I love online games and the respective road I was heading down, the opportunity to join the “Lightmaker family” was simply to good to pass up.

You’ll see from their portfolio page, that they’ve got some great clients (eg. Adobe, Electronic Arts and Warner Bros) and clearly work with some massive budgets, so not only will I be working on the cutting-edge, but also involved in projects that find an international audience.

So what does this mean to you? Well, I’ll be diving straight into a world of Flex and ActionScript 3 (with little distraction otherwise) so you’ll probably notice that this blog touches on more content of that ilk. If that’s not your cup of tea, don’t worry, I’ll be sure to continue my experiments and will make every effort to develop footloosemoose branded casual games in my own time… I have two strong ideas (including a Tower Defense style game) that will hopefully see some light in the coming months, not to mention the much-anticipated rewrite of the mb3Dengine.

If you’re a local you’d be interested to know that the guys are presenting at next weeks Remix conference - I’ll post session details here as soon as they’re available.

I start next Wednesday, so in the interim I’ll be getting my head back into the AS3 space and just generally relaxing! The next 12 months will see me starting this new job, buying a home (with Sam) and getting married… exciting times ahead!
