New Game: BigFooty Rules

Please welcome the newest addition to the footloosemoose stable of fine online gaming, BigFooty Rules.

Michael Battle - BigFooty Rules

BigFooty.com is Australia’s premiere Australian Rules Football (Aussie Rules) forum and they felt that a viral game would give the already competitive members something to play with and would help to bring in new subscribers. They were after something simple, addictive and fun and generally based on the token-looping concept found in games such as BusySanta - this is what I came up with…

This time I was responsible for absolutely everything, which is a little out of the ordinary as usually I get approached by designers who want to handle the pretty bits. I really enjoyed the challenge and found that it streamlined the process incredibly… and I’m very happy with what I came up with.

For those that are new to this type of game, the objective is quite simple. All you have to do is to loop the balls of the same colour until only one ball of each colour remains on the screen. If you do this within the allocated time, you advance to the next level where there are more balls, more colours and less time.

To spice things up along the way, there are a number of special ‘powerup’ tokens. BigFooty Rules has five different tokens and to use them you can either nudge them, or include them in a valid loop. To add further variety, some of the tokens will hinder your progress - this results in a game that is more than simply pattern matching, but a process where strategy and prioritising is crucial when trying to beat the best score.

Feedback so far has been great, with comments like “I may never work again” and “simple, addictive and fun”… see what you think.
