Launch: Beach Watch

Announcing the launch of a new Flash Game, Wenger’s Beach Watch.

Michael Battle - Beach Watch

Izaac from Komiti Creative looked after all of the design and project management and passed the programming and game animation to me.

Michael Battle - Beach Watch

Essentially, the project brief was quite simple. We were required to come up with a game that depicted Surf Lifesavers racing along a beach! I was given approximately half a week to sort out my end so the result is definite an achievement.

The challenge in the development of this game was how to make it ’stand out from the crowd’ and keep it within time and budgetary constraints. We opted to implement the ‘Power Bar’ feature which is how the player controls his on-screen character and is its main point of differentiation. The Power Bar (seen in the top right of the above image) is a timing mechanism where the player must prove that they’ve got good reflexes to win each race… more info on this is in the game instructions (make sure you read them before playing!).

The brand message is continually reinforced via copy on all of the introductory screens, through in-game visual assets (including timing each race on a Wenger watch) and finally, clearly broadcasting the sponsorship message on the Game Over screen: “$15 from every SLSA Wenger Watch goes to Surf Lifesaving Australia”.
