Game: Accukey

This week has been fantastic. I’ve just launched two projects and have managed to find some time to play! I’ve had a crack at a new blog theme (still haven’t decided if I’m going to use it), I’ve made a start on the new footloosemoose.com site, and I’ve had a bunch of game ideas.

What I’ve got to show you is something that I never intended to take this far… although now that I have, I’m starting to think that I should really finish off all of my other game-like experiments!

I’ve created a very simple game that will reward reflexes, concentration and nimble fingers. Here’s a very quick chat on the influencing factors and then you can kill some time on the keypad.

Announcing the launch of a new Flash Game, Wenger’s Beach Watch.

Izaac from Komiti Creative looked after all of the design and project management and passed the programming and game animation to me.

Launch: wYse bodywear

On behalf of my colleagues at Verigo Business Systems, Angus and Travis, I’d like to take a moment to announce the launch of our latest project: wYse bodywear.

Verigo handled the client liaison and project management and passed concept, design and development to me. I wanted to create an interface that focused on the content, that encouraged exploration and that was intuitive whilst still being novel. The budget and deadline were quite humble… so we had to figure out what was achievable whilst exceeding the clients expectations and building our portfolios.

Here’s a quick overview of what I came up with:

Experiment: Analog Binary Clock

This is a bit of a weird one. This idea has been rattling around my head for a few weeks now and quite frankly, I’m sick of it! Permit me to purge myself of this cognitive nerd-demon so that I can get to something more interesting.

Michael Battle - Flash Experiment

In a nutshell, I’ve been thinking of new ways in which to visualise binary numbers. For those requiring clarification at this point, introduce yourself to binary here. So we have 1’s and 0’s… how else can these be represented? Of course, we know about ‘on’ and ‘off’… what about ‘black’ and ‘white’ or, as I demonstrate in this instance… ‘left’ and ‘right’.

Experiment: Parasites

Today I had this idea for a visualisation and since work wasn’t too urgent I decided to run with it.

Though the idea is pretty simple, I still think the result is quite fun to watch.

Roy Block

Now this is the kind of work that I’m totally into… Roy Block is an experiment by Sebastian Schmieg that investigates the use of a Tangible User Interface to explore computer game concepts.

Michael Battle - Roy Block

For a change, this isn’t constructed using Flash - rather, Processing and reacTIVision (of which there does seem to be a Flash client).

I’ve found this novel approach to enriching the user’s contribution to the game experience to be quite thought-provoking. Here’s a quick overview of the experiment inevitably followed by some YouTube-ness…
