Big News!

Apologies for the tumbleweeds… I’ve been a little preoccupied over the last week or so. However, I submit to you that there is very good reason for my tardiness - you see, I decided to resign from my job on the weekend! You heard correctly, Michael Battle is a free agent.

The little animation above (totally tongue-in-cheek, by the way) is meant to reflect the moment of nirvana that was revealed to me when I had finally reached the decision to go solo. My time at M&C Saatchi was extremely valuable and I leave behind some excellent colleagues and, moreover, some excellent friends. We are currently discussing an option of some ongoing contract-esque work… we’ll see what eventuates.

As for what’s coming up for me, I’m glad you asked!

As I coined the other day, it seems I’ve got too many kettles and not enough hot plates! I’ve decided to pursue a number of projects, the first of which is to turn footloosemoose.com into my own Flash Games business. Along with a some of my own creations, I’ll also be collecting and critiquing some of the better Flash games from around the web and providing a place for us all to discuss them.

Secondly - you guessed it - the development of the mb3Dengine is going to gain some momentum. I’ve got big plans for it and you’ll soon be invited (within a month or two) to join a beta testing team for its impending reincarnation.

The third thing I’m working on is a big secret and if you ever find out about it - it probably means that I’ll be doing an Uncle Scrooge, swimming through the cash. If that ever happens, make sure you drop in and I’ll buy you a beer… but don’t hold your breath, I’ve got a lot to learn about business and patents before that comes to pass.

All up, some busy and exciting times ahead. If you’ve got a Flash Game idea that needs a keyboard jockey like me to help it along, I’m more than willing to chat.

PS - I promise the next post will have a Flash experiment in it!

But why not staying a bit longer @ MCS?

Hey Mel…

Thanks! Luck will certainly come in handy!

I really wanted to stay at M&C for longer - I was always planning to stay at least until next Christmas. There are a few reasons why I made the call - perhaps the most compelling was that life from here on in is just going to get more and more complicated… I have a girlfriend of 3 years who is quite impatient (and I hope she reads this! :) ) and if felt like this may be my last opportunity (in the foreseeable future, anyway) to have a go at my own games business.

My opinion is that Flash - and Flash Games in particular - are going to get huge. If I can position myself somewhere on that wave, then I’ll be happy.

oh. pressure fm gf…. u r not bad. ;-)

I think the same - Flash Games are going to be huge. Some crappy ugly games can also be very popular and played by zillion people. Can’t believe it. There are some interesting new kind of job opportunities which make me really feel ‘the world is really changing’. I look forward to seeing and playing flash games from you soon!

Just thinking that, with yr quality and knowledge and youth (I guess.), the future of u may/can be much wider and deeper than jumping into Flash games market solo at the moment? Especially I think advertising firm structure and biz model shall be changing to fit in to the new biz paradigm. Isn’t it worth to stay longer to see what will happen and make counter suggestion to yr boss? Flash games are a powerful influential tools in future marcom strategy which goes beyond words!

So, good luck again for whatever u do. Cheers. ;-)

Thanks for that, Mel… leaving my job was a considered decision - I’d been contemplating the move for quite a while.

I agree with your second paragraph except that there are many many many agencies out there… and with a planned portfolio of a couple of dozen games, I shouldn’t have much trouble getting back in there if I feel it’s the right move to make at the time. Well… I hope not, anyway. I’m also anticipating working with a number of agencies as they outsource some games… so hopefully I’ll still have one foot in the door.

The other note is that I’ve got a few other projects to play with… which require some full-time attention. I’m not anticipating flying solo for too long.

Good to know that you’ve got my back! :)

Cool mate I have work for you. Doesn’t even involve degrading yourself in a back alley. See emails.
