My Flash Automata Experiment

Finally! I’ve been wanting to have a go at this for a long time and this morning I got that familiar Flash urge… (otherwise known as thesis procrastination) and I had to have a go.

The experiment shows a number of randomly generated boxes that interact in a variety of ways - click the buttons on the lower left of the screen to see the difference.

FYI - “Automata” is defined on Dictionary.com as:

  1. A self-operating machine or mechanism, especially a robot.
  2. One that behaves or responds in a mechanical way.

Instructions:

  • Click any vacant area to create a new random square (max 50)
  • Click on a square to delete it
  • Select the active mode from the buttons on the lower left
  • Turn walls on and off by clicking on the text in the bottom left

If it’s running slowly: right click, go to the ‘quality’ menu and select ‘low’. That should speed things up!

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
